Structural Geology Development Forum held in Beijing

Under the aegis of SKLABLE and other science researches, structural geology development forum convened in IGGCAS on 26 and 27 February.

It was attended by some 160 scholars of research organizations and institutions of higher learning from CAS and the Nation’s universities. IGGCAS vice director Wu Fuyuan, SKLABLE and vice director Wang Qingchen both gave an address at the meeting. Zhong Dalai, Zhang Guowei and Jin Zhenmin, academicians of CAS, Cai Yu ,Geoscience department executive deputy director of NSFC, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote report.

Sponsored by SKLABLE, the meeting aims at exchanging academic progress in recent years, introducing new methods and new measures, enhancing exchanges and coordination of the development of academic disciplines, and exploring development direction of structural geology.

The themes of the conference included the opportunities and challenges of structural geology, orogenic belt tectonic evolution, continental deformation (including modern process), basin-mountain coupling. Delegates made a heated discussion in deferent themes at new situation including how structural geology responding to a series of facing challenges and opportunities, and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau tectonic geomorphology and continental dynamics, continental lithosphere evolution. Finally, delegates affirmed the form of free discussion triggered by given report, and decided to rename Structural Geology Development Forum as Structural Geology and Geodynamics academic seminar, and established the Standing Committee, which would be held at Northwestern University in 2009, and Jilin University in 2010.
