State Key Laboratory of
Lithospheric Evolution

On January 31, 2007, Basic Research Department of MOST launched the acceptance meeting of State Key Laboratory of Lithospheric Evolution. Relative leaders from the Department of Basic Research of MOST, CAS and IGGCAS attended the meeting. Academician Zhang Guowei was the head of the expert group.
Academician Zhu Rixiang, director of the laboratory, gave a detailed report on research results, management style, personnel training and supporting systems construction during the past year.
The expert group discussed the construction and director鈥檚 report of the lab, and inspected the paleomagnetism laboratory, electron microprobe laboratory, Ar laboratory, Geomagnetic MC-ICPMS and biological laboratory. The group agreed that the laboratory had advantages in the fields of exploration of lithospheric deep texture, formation and evolution of basin-range system, and formation and destruction of cratonic lithosphere since it was approved for construction in April 2005; in addition, the lab had made research results with international influence in thickness determination of seismic lithosphere especially in North China Craton, chronological framework of Mesozoic magmatism, relationship of geomagnetic field and Earth鈥檚 interior process, and proliferation orogeny etc..
According to the opinions of the expert group, the lab has finished the construction tasks required in the Construction Book. The expert group agreed to grant the laboratory the acceptance check, meanwhile, the Group recommended the Laboratory should be based on large-scale research projects, further strengthen interdisciplinary.
