Outstanding Young Scientists Fund assessment in 2006 concluded

The Outstanding Young Scientists Fund assessment meeting in 2006 was held on October 16 to 17 in Beijing, which was the first meeting of the fifth National Outstanding Youth Science Fund Assessment Committee. Academician Chen Yiyu ,director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China ,was the appointed director of the Fifth Assessment Committee, and Academician Cheng Jinpei, Du Xiangwan,Li Jiayang, Wang Pinxian, and Chen Junliang were the appointed vice director of the Committee.
   The granted candidates of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young in 2006, National Science Fund for Outstanding Young (foreign), the cooperation research foundation of overseas, Hong Kong and Macao for young scholars were assessed on the meeting. There were 1588 applied
   After the review of the peer, evaluation of the professional accreditation, and assessment of the Committee of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young, 158 outstanding young scientists from the affiliated colleges of the MOE, Institutions of CAS and other units have won the support of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young, 12 researchers won the support of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young (foreign), and 80 researchers won the support of the cooperation research foundation of overseas, Hong Kong and Macao for young scholars in 2006. 
   The granted funding of the National Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists will increased by 100% this year, it has been the 4th time to increase the funding since the National Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists was established in 1994. Starting from this year, the funding of the National Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists and the National Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists (foreign) will be raised from one million to two million for four years, and from 0.7 million to 1.4 million for four-year.
