International symposium on paleomagnetism and the Earth deep interior held in Beijing
Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences, the International Symposium on paleomagnetism and the Earth’s deep interior was held at Foreign Experts Building Beijing from 5-8 July 2007, hosted by State Key Laboratory of Lithospheric Evolution, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During the meeting, 36 scientists from the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan and China, delivered the oral reports. Researchers and graduate students from the Chinese University of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences, the China Seismological Bureau and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics attended the meeting.
The topic of the meeting was Paleomagnetism and the Earth’s Deep Interior: Unsolved Problems and Future Challenges, involving ancient magnetic intensity, planets and the Earth’s magnetic field, magnetic generator model, Ar-Ar was determined, the lithosphere structure. Scholars from home and aborad had a lively discussion on the topic, and visited paleomagnetism and geochronology laboratory, MC-ICP-MS laboratory, Institution of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academic Sciences.
The symposium created a good face-to-face discussions and exchange platform for the scholars from home and abroad, strengthening the international academic exchanges and cooperation, being beneficial to promote the disciplines development of China’s paleomagnetism and deep earth and improve China’s international influence in the field.
